Tutoring

multisensory tuition

We base our sessions on the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is multisensory; language-based; structured; sequential; cumulative; cognitive; and most importantly, flexible so it can be tailored to your child's needs.

Multisensory tuition has been shown to be especially beneficial for dyslexic learners, as through engaging multiple sense modalities, learners are provided with sensory 'hooks' on which to hang their learning. This makes it more likely that new information will be stored in the long term memory, and available for recall at a later date.

Our sessions incorporate sight, hearing, touch, smell and even taste, and are so much fun that children often don't realise that they are actually learning!

TUTORING faq's:

how will tutoring help my child?

Tutoring will give your child the individual attention that is not possible in a busy classroom. It will enable them to work on areas of weakness and learn strategies which they can apply at school.

We aim to provide a calm, emotionally supportive environment, which will boost your child's confidence, and encourage them to challenge themselves.

what dyslexic deficiencies will best be helped by these sessions?

Sessions are tailored to your child, and will address whatever difficulties have been identified by the assessment, or flagged to us by you. Most sessions will include activities to improve visual and auditory memory; handwriting and reading.

does my child have to have dyslexia to benefit from the sessions?

Definitely not. Many children who are struggling with literacy will benefit from extra help, and we are happy to provide individualised support to children who are finding it difficult to read and write.

how long is a session?

A tutoring session is around 60 minutes long.

You may wonder whether your child will cope with an hour of extra tuition, especially if they are tired after struggling in the classroom all day.

We have found that because the session is broken down into lots of short games and exercises, with plenty of multisensory fun, the time passes quickly and children usually cope very well, and enjoy the sessions.

WHAT DAYS/TIMES DO YOU OFFER TUTORING?

Most children come for tuition after school, or on Saturday mornings, but tutoring is also available during the school day should you wish: Parents/carers are within their legal rights to take a child out of school for individual tuition.

Do i need to buy anything to use in the sessions

No, we will provide all materials and resources.
